[VIDEO] Fog cloud looks like a river rolling off a coast in Iceland

"Fog river" rolls from cliff in Iceland #fogriver

Fog cloud looks like a river off a coast in Iceland

This video shows mist rolling gently downwards over the precipice of a cliff in Iceland. Normally hot air cools as it rises into the atmosphere. But sometimes the opposite happens.

It could be what's known as a temperature inversion - happens when hot air high up acts as a seal to keep cold air and fog trapped below. And it creates natural scenes like this.

Kjartan Gunnsteinsson caught the bizarre phenomenon on camera.

Many have commented the time lapse footage looks like a hoax - but Gunnsteinsson says it's 100 per cent genuine.

The footage was captured during the summer solstice, where the sun remains in the sky for nearly 24 hours.

Although it's moving slowly, the waterfall-type scene repeats itself along the cliff edge. As well as this interesting phenomenon, Iceland is known for its rugged and wild landscapes.
