South India 101 - The Banana Leaf | Put Chutney
The leaf has a symmetrical bifurcation that is enabled by a spine like structure right in the middle The tensile strength of the fiber makes it a material that doesn't tear easily. It is credibly durable and has got an incredible glossy finish.

The structural architecture of the banana leaf is in such a manner that the form material and the color in unison Gives a psychological satisfaction in the eating experience. The celestial experience that starts with feeling the leaf in your hand.

Before the state-of-the-art South Indian meal is served there are some intermediate but very important steps

Open the leaf and place it properly. If you are succeed with this the next step is to clean the leaf with water Sprinkle, Wipe and Swipe.

Salt, Pickle, Side-dishes and sweet are placed on the upper side or the serving side.

Do you know why the sweet is kept on the top right corner of the banana leaf?
There could be many reasons but each dish is placed ergonomically for easy reach and ease of use.

Even schezwan noodles, butter naan and paneer butter masala can be served at this stage. But it will ruin the impeccable banana leaf meal experience

The core element that binds all these elements into a meal is rice. For beginners we suggest a "Little more!" variations.

With geometry, trigonometry and elementary mathematics the heap of rice is shaped, segmented and rationed for different segments of the meal.

Some people use a fork and a spoon but who needs that..We have a spoon, a fork and a knife all built into one device. And we were born with ten of them. Our fingers. The holistic experience is got by using your hand to eat. The touch and feel not only help you gauge the texture and the temperature of the food. But also augments the 'thulping' process.

In this demo we start with the Ghee and Sambar

'Sambre' if you are from the other side of the Vindhyas. A hole of pre calculated diameter is made to accommodate the optimally required amount of Sambar.

The next step is to have the 'Rasam rice'. The fluidity and viscosity of the rasam is different. If you do not eat carefully you might need a good detergent powder.

This should be handled with the agility and a steady mind as that of a martial art expert.

One hand to be placed parallel to the leaf And the other one, perpendicular to the leaf and in one swift motion to eat the South Indian Rasam rice.

During this entire process do not forget to eat the side dishes and don't forget to ask for a refill of the side dishes. This can be done by the ancient tested and proven method called..

Asking to Serve some side dishes to the next leaf and also ask to put the same a little on your leaf.

The penultimate step in this process is to have is 'Curd rice Or buttermilk rice'. The cold curd/butter milk is mixed with rice at room temperature. This astounding feeling passes from your hand to your lips, from your lips to your throat, from your throat to your stomach. The curd rice instantly aids the digestion process!

As with any other meal from any other country the dessert is served at the end Considering the consistency of the 'Payasam' You could think of going for the rasam eating technique!.. Here we employ a technique called wrap and slurp!

That is the end of the meal

All you have to do now is to fold the banana leaf If you fold it towards you, it is in good and happy functions like wedding, reception, keda vettu, it means you expects some more good functions like this to happen in future. If you fold it away from you, it means a sad function like death funeral.

If you do not know what to do, close your mouth, leave the leaf open and GO!

The banana leaf comes in various sizes to serve all your dietary needs.

'Banana leaf Plus' for full meals, 'The mini' for tiffin items, and the 'nano' for take-away..
